I was thinking of taking 6 months off to do some serious backpacking, tent camping, and fishing. What are some areas that you would recommend? I was thinking of doing this in spring/summer.

If you want to take 6 months and do some serious backpacking, give the Appalachian Trail a shot. 6 months would be about right to do the entire 2160+ miles.

One of the best is KOA campgrounds. I'm living there right now and its plain wonderful. Free cable TV, free hispeed internet, free water, I only pay elecricity.
I raccomand Maine in summer. Greenville will be my choice right on the Moosehead lake.

Michigan's upper peninsula is really rugged and wild,there are over 1 million acres open to the public and tons of campgrounds to choose from

My opinion that time of year would be Blue Ridge mountain area. Kentucky, Tn, Carolinas. All beautiful area and alot of it. One of my favorite spots.
