I am going on a Royal Caribbean Cruise the first week of July and I am not sure what to wear for the Captain's Dinner. I have this long black formal dress that I would love to wear. (Not many places you can wear a long formal dress) Is this too dressy?

That would be just fine... I have worn long black dresses, low cut back, a little bit of a train...
You will find some people dress to the hilt, while others not so much....
Dress up, and have fun!! You will be glad you did!!!

Anything goes from cocktail dresses to formals. I've done both and it may depend on the length of cruise and room in your luggage. I've been taking two-piece outfits lately so I can change the tops and still bring a really nice dress (long) for the 1st formal night. After that I usually wear something like a nice suit or cocktail dress. Evenings I dress as I would going out for dinner at home. But if you're too tired, just go to the buffet and wear what you'd like.

The long black formal dress will be perfect. People wear dresses that are formal or just dresses that you would wear to a wedding. You will look fine in the dress.

Enjoy your cruise!

Perfect dress for formal night. It's not to dressy.

Have a wonderful cruise.

I have been to several cruises years ago and yes, the last night almost everyone was dressed very formal (it was required, anyway). So, do not worry, wear your lovely dress and enjoy it (the dress, the event will be a bore).

I have gone on a number of cruises. Years ago you had to dress formally to go to the "Captain's Dinner".

Today, for better or worse, "dressy casual" works.
although you certainly can still enjoy the rare opportunity to dress formally.

Enjoy your cruise, lucky you.

Not at all, in fact formal dress is recommended.
When we went on our cruise, to the two formal dinners, I wore a Tux, and my wife wore a long formal dress, and her fancy jewelry that she doesn't get to often wear.

Your mom could placed on a thong and your dad could placed on sweat pants. heavily, it particularly is formal night. gown up. the common male dresses is a minimum of a jacket and tie. this could variety each and each of how as much as a tuxedo. for women, it is something from a intense-high quality summer season gown with intense-high quality flat shoes to a perfect gown with pumps. sensible informal is open to interpretation. in certainty, it particularly is a button-up shirt for a guy with slacks (no denims). in spite of the certainty that, I even have seen adult males placed on denims interior the eating room - and that they did no longer get thrown out. nonetheless, it replaced into probable undesirable type. females are fortunate right here. a intense-high quality summer season gown will do (in spite of the certainty that it is chilly with the AC). do exactly no longer take place such as you're traveling the Hooter's in Tallahassee on a warm August night and you'd be advantageous (sorry Florida).

Presuming you are a woman, that is an excellent choice.

However, if you are a man, the choice of a long formal dress is not so good. In that case, a dark suit or tuxedo is the better choice.
