Thunk as in it just makes the thunk sound and thats it? Does it turn over?

If it just makes the thunk and thats it, you blew your engine.

Same thing happened to me. :(

I would remove the started and have it bench tested at your local auto parts store. Also, with the starter off, take a socket and 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar and see if you can turn the engine over by the crank bolt. It should turn. Sounds like the starter drive or motor is bad.

It could be arced contacts on the starter solenoid or a bad starter. It sounds like the solenoid is pulling the bendix in but the starter itself is not getting voltage.

Try looking at your sensor to your starter. We have a 84 ford f150 and we have heard all the sounds possible!! The starter would make a buzzing type of sound so it can't be your starter. Maybe your alternator???

the thunk, is the salenoide throwing the gear into the fly wheel. at that moment, the motor ought to be turning to, on your starter if just clunk, and nothing more, feel a battery cable, and see if it is hot, or melting if it is hot, the starter is probably shot,or the engine seized
