Wow! It was comforting to read your question, as that was the one reason I quit attending church years ago ! I have met so many wonderful people in my life; some Mormons, Buddhists, Islamic, etc. When I would listen to the sermons of pastors where reference was made regarding their "Cults" I started studying the basic doctrine of the different religions.

Each religion I looked into had the same basic foundation of Christianity; that we are to love one another. Kindness, showing compassion, and helping others is what life is supposed to be about...not bashing others for believing differently. The more I studied, the more I realized that the Christian God and many of the scriptures in the Bible, are oxymorons. Even the attitudes of those who turn away from others is oxymoronic and egotistical.

My Creator, the One I love and give thanks to, is nothing like the Biblical one. I no longer attend church and my spirituality has soared! I think the behavior represents the need to be number one, and it also displays an insecurity or fear of becoming familiar with new ideas. Doctrine, after all, is created by human beings. It is so much nicer to love and respect all folks, regardless of which church they attend. Have a great day! Annie

No it's not necessary, but people do it anyway in order to feel superior. They attack other religions because they have doubts about their own, so they attack others in order to try and strengthen their belief. I don't necessarily believe other religions, but that's no need for me to attack and demonize them. I think all religions have some good in them, so why should I try to tear them down?

Because they are hateful and mean if you do not agree their religion is the ONLY way and they are unable to accept people who worship a religion other than theirs to be horrible people. I for one will NOT stand for that. Everyone should respect a person's choice of religion, NOT *itch them out.

So that everyone of said faith will stop practicing and start worshiping in another.

It's sad.

In my experience, and I dare say in many others, many certainly do. I guess it's because they need to try to prove that their faith or religion is a valid one.

sadly a lot of so called religious groups suffer from the mob mentality....I am further saddened that they single out people or groups of people to target...I am a christian and I have to say that I have seen this...I have left church's for this but never have I left God....people do a lot of things in His name but it does not mean it is OF Him...So in answer to your question...No it is not necessary....good luck.

Mat 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

2PE 2:1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2PE 2:2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

Telling the truth about false teaching isn't demonizing. If people don't like hearing the truth, they can walk away and not listen.

Good question. Star for you.
I suppose, though, that the debate helps us to look more at the evidence for what we believe, and to be able to rationally support what we believe in.

People seek confirmation of their own beliefs.
In encountering those of different beliefs they are
threatened because it says someone thinks them
or their belief wrong. It's a defense mechanism!
