Your cat may be close by, but may be hiding because he is frightened if he's not used to being outside. As other posters have suggested, put some familiar smelling items outside to lure your cat back close home in case he's wandered away. Read this excellent link for information about how to find lost cats. http://sonic.net/~pauline/search.html
This link has information on finding your cat based on his personality profile: http://sonic.net/~pauline/profile.html
Follow the links on the left side of the page for containment techniques and other tips & ideas. The 'kitty buffet' technique worked well for a friend who lost her cat - he was terrified outdoors and had been hiding, but finally returned after a week.
I hope your kitty is home safe soon!

Put his kitty litter (I hope you have not tossed out the urine soiled part) outside by the door or porch of your house. The scent of his own urine will hep him recognize his own home. This is waht I did when my cat escaped out a window in my daughter's house - a place he has never been in before. Luckily, I brought his itter tray becuase we were staying over for a week. And uckily, he already used it earlier in the day. I placed it outside underneath the window of the room I was staying in and had my window open a bit. He escaped just past midnight. I stayed up all night looking for him. Exhausted I returned to my room. An hour later, close to dawn, my cat suddenly jumped to my window and greeted me "meowwww!"... he was able to find his way back becuase of his urine scent by my window I am sure.
Try it - might work for you too.

i does not advise an electric powered collar. I additionally do not think of the cat could stay outdoors the full time. My mom places her one indoor living house cat who loves the exterior on a lengthy cable staked outstanding outdoors the front door. He basically is going outdoors if somebody is at living house and could shop a watch on him. He has a bush for safeguard, and he basically continues to be out half-hour at a time if that. Your different selection is to get a large cage (could could desire to custom make it) and permit her sit down in there. you will could desire to place a leash on her bringing her back and forth from the living house door to the cage however. I advise getting a harness in case you think of the cat might slip its collar on an identical time as out on the leash. do not take ANY possibilities. do not use a marvel collar. marvel collars... properly... collars for electric powered fences... are meant for canines. they don't seem to be precisely humane the two.

You should put his litterbox outside, this way he will be able to smell home. Hes never been outdoors, so he doesnt know what his home smells like from out there. Put familiar smelling items outside for him to smell. Litterbox, a bed, article of your clothing. Also start checking at local shelters, if you had a picture of him yet bring that too. Hope all turns out well!
