Things must have changed since I was there. We went to bed at 9:30 p.m. and awoke at 3:30 a.m. Every day we had personal and locker inspections, classes, drills on the "grinder", field day in the barracks including completely mopping and buffing the floor, washing and hanging out laundry, and folding and stowing dried laundry. The food was great. You got all you could eat, the trick was you only had 3 minutes to eat it.

We'd go to the pool every 3 days or so and practice our abandoning ship routine. We had to jump off of this 25 foot or so tower into the pool. We had a guy who was 6'7", weighed about 320, and didn't have an ounce of muscle. He created such an enormous splash when he jumped off the tower that the water actually splashed through the bottom of the tower. Our instructors got such a kick out of that that they made him abandon ship for about an hour or so, doubling over in laughter after each splash.

The rest of the time they screamed at us.

I was in the Navy. Bootcamp was fun! We mostly did classroom work. Some drills and occassionally PT. The most we ran was a mile and a half (for PT test). You also get to jump off a high tower into a pool and take a swim test. You also go to the gas chamber (not that bad--all in your mind) and the firing range. You do get some private free time. And at week 6 they let you go to this lounge and hang out...but you have curfew.

You learn the skill to surive on ship.
Firefighting, damage control, and other skills.
They are not as much work out but a lot of mental workout.
You learn to work as a team like all boot camps.
Change your way of thinking from a civlian to that of someone in the military.

There is a lot of working out, and you also attend a lot of classes, like arms fire, electronics, map reading, etc.
