turbotax.com is an excellent website. They allow you to file your federal but you must pay for the state. However you can file your state separately by just going to your state revenue's website. If you can not get through to turbotax.com, then go to irs.gov and click on e-file. This will give you a whole list of companies that allow you to e-file for free.

Taxact.com (Second Story software) is free. However, when you are ready to file, you can efile from that site and there is a small charge (around $10.00) to have the check go right into your checking account. I don't know of any sites that will let you submit your forms free, but Taxact will let your actually complete your forms online. Even the "Deluxe" version is free until you actually file. I've used it for about 5 years now and I like it because it lets me change scenarios and see what the best calculations are for me.

The IRS has a FREE efile link. If you make under $52,000 a year, then you would qualify. You can log onto any of their listed tax preparer sites and do your return online for free.
Here's the link:

We used H & R Block---there are many others and when you are done preparing your return, if you qualify it will say amount owed-$0. And no, you do not need a credit card, so no worries there!
