my exboyfriend of 2 years was very depressed for over a year of our relationship.he began taking antidepressants & within weeks his personality did a complete 180. he broke up with me impulsively, then the next day acted as if we were still together,& within days he asked me back out, then just days later, he dumped me again. just days after that he went around telling any1 & every1 that he was "going 2 get laid" over the weekend (even though he and i never had sex)& he went through 4 girls in just 4 weeks of being single.people see his behavior&believe that he is bipolar and that his antidepressants triggered his depression into mania. however recently, he hasn't looked as jumpy as he first did after the break up, and he's sort of settled down but still goes out of his way to get my attention (blocks me on IM for no reason, cuts me off in the parking lot) i'm just wondering, if antidepressants trigger people 2 go manic, how long usually until they switch back to the depressed state?

Unless you're just interested in the cycle of manic-depressive people I don't understand why you would even be concerned about your ex, kiddo.
He's an "ex" for a reason. He may need to be "rescued" but I think it would be asking a lot on his part to expect you to do this.
Let him get his own self straightened out, and medicated correctly, as I am assuming he is an adult.
Life is too short to spend it trying to help people who don't want to help themselves.
Find a nice guy.........there are a LOT of them out there.
Good Luck, sweetie.

Manic and depressive cycles vary for each person, so it would be difficult to say when he would return to being depressed. However, since certain meds induce a manic cycle in some people who are bipolar, the manic behavior may continue until he is taken off of that medication. I have seen this behavior firsthand, and the only solution i have seen that works is to change the antidepressant and/or add a medication specifically for bipolar disorder such as Lithium.

I take an antidepressant, but I also take lithium. My phych for 10 yrs now has had a motto with my care...for every antidepressant there must be an antibipolar medicine to counter act it. So I take 1 antdepressant and 1 antibipolar med. I believe his theory is one controls both (lithium), but he gives me the antidepressant to even it out. He maybe just wanting to get laid, he could be extremely manic. Only his doctor can tell for sure.

Antidepressants are supposed to alleviate depression not cause a mania. A psychiatrist is the only one who can diagnose a bipolar disorder.

Your ex-boyfriend sounds like a modern day Don Juan, Casanova or Lothario. My suggestion is to put distance between you and him.
