If you have a seperate sub it could be powering up, I get a thump noise when the subs are powered. A pop noise could also be from an older receiver. A cheap RCA/JVC can use weak inverters that cause un even power distribution. Overall, try it another set of speakers if it still happens.. its the amp.

I think it is to do with a signal from the power supply of the receiver which goes to the speaker as random noise. i think it would happen to all electrical equipment but most manufacturers do something to cancel this sound when you first switch on. With some expensive and high end equipment the circuit is not adjusted because they feel any manipulation could degrade the sound .Of course your situation may be caused by a fault in the amp.or speaker.

sounds like they have blown or one of them may be out or something could be rubbing against them on the inside. My husband works with a audio shop and he talks about these things all day Im sure that one of these may be your problem.

do you run a seperate amp for this pair..if so, power down amp til after you turn receiver on...

amp could be to powerfull for the speakers.
