New to trucks, going to buy a 2007 Ford F-150 or 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500, Ford would have the Triton 5.4L V8, Chevy Vortex(sp?) 6.0L, I want 4x4 also limited slip. The Ford would be the XLT model. Chevy LT2 equiped.

Anyway, I don't know much about how these engines compare, mstly looking for reliability and longevity. How long they last? When and what usually becomes a problem?

Does one of these truck tend to fall apart after the warranty?

I can get both truck similarly equiped for about the same price, I like the looks and ride of both. So I am having a hard time deciding.

Which is more truck for my money?

Also when they ask for $3000 in rebate or 0% over 5 years which is better? I think interest rate would be 6.9% if I take rebate.

Thanks

Yea, first answerer is an idiot. American trucks beat out jap crap trucks every single time. Buy a Chevy. They will last till 200,000 miles and longer. I'd stay away from Ford, but that's me. Both are very good.

I would go with the Ford truck hands down. I'll provide a link called "Truth about Trucks" which goes on to describe the F-150, and rips it apart with other trucks to get down to the bones and show you the differences in the durability of the truck. It's all short video clips but very informative. Funny some of things that the competitors cut corners in actually, including the Silverado.

There's a reason the F-150 is the #1 seller in trucks for 29+ years, and worldwide year after year.

I'm still not sold on the Vortec engines, I'm supplying a link to a design issue which has lead to a class action lawsuit with Pistonslapping in the engines.

Now on the financing, all depends how much you place down. Usually the 0% wins out over the long term. Unless you plan a huge downpayment and maybe 1-2 years of financing, then the rebate helps out.

Hope this helps...

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY A FORD!! We owned a 2003 Ford F150 Supercrew. The steering wheel locked up while driving and about got us killed! Ford claimed there was no problem........ Several issues also unrepairable with the vehicle. Have owned several Ford/Mazda products as well as Chevys. Chevy trucks are much better hands down!! Owned 2 of them with virtually no problems. Put about 100k mi on ea vehicle. Chevy all the way!!!

shaq iz phat is a moron. the ford f-150 is the best truck on the road, hands down. import manufacturers do not understand the American truck market. chevy has improved their rpoduct dramatically with the new body style, but the ford still has a stronger frame, more 'moral content' and more units on the road with 250,000+ than any other manufacturer.

you make the call, but the f-series is the truck of choice for truck guys.

the rebate is the way to go if you don't plan to keep your truck thru the length of the contract. if you have plans to drive your truck for 5 years or more, go 0%

In spite of the Chevy's recent publicity the Ford is STILL a better truck.

I've had Ford trucks and built Ford trucks. I have a 05 King Ranch 4X4 supercrew and I love it. If you want to buy a Ford, let me know and I'll get you an X plan number.

Two years ago I would have said the F-150 but the new Silverado does seem pretty good.

I'd push my Chevy before I'd buy a Ford.
