the cost of units ect is not too bad, compared with between £1500 and £3000 just to fit, and takes around 3 - 4 days!!! sounds like bloody good money to me.

Because a nice kitchen adds a lot of value to a house. And most people don't have the know-how to do it on their own, so they can charge a bunch. The room that normally attracts the most attention when a person is buying or selling a house is the kitchen. They are also the most expensive to remodel because so much is in them: cabinets, countertops, appliances, lighting, tiling, electrical wiring, stove air vents, sinks, waterlines, drain pipes, gas lines, etc.

Kitchens are the most expensive room to remodel in the whole house. Good counter tops and cabinets are very expensive and them. you have plumbing and wiring. Then a few thousand for appliances and then you can spend a bundle on the floor

A reputable and professional firm will use qualified time-served carpenters or joiners to fit the actual kitchen rather than self taught fitters who may have no qualifications. They will have their own skilled workforce who are qualified to current industry standard and accredited to meet legislation.

Time was when the manual worker was the bottom of the food chain.
Today the paper movers are in that position.
Supply and demand, lack of skills, overseas production, have contributed to this. It's life.
