I'll be honest - neither I nor anyone I know really spends all that much time thinking about Americans one way or the other!

Personally I don't think I can judge 'Americans' as all being the same, or feel that I know anything about individuals without having met them and got to know them. I'd take you as I found you, and I expect most other Brits would do the same.

I'd say if you want to visit Britain (I say Britain because Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all worth visiting just as much as England) then go for it. If you do come across anyone who takes against you because of your nationality - here or anywhere else in the world - then it's a great opportunity to change their attitude by being pleasant, friendly, polite, and open to their culture. But to be honest, I doubt you'd have any problems because, like I said, it's not really that big an issue to most people.

Hope this helps - and enjoy your visit, if you come! (The South West is particularly nice - Devon and Cornwall. Feel I should put in a good word for my local area!)

I went to England and Scotland about 6 years ago and I felt comfortable although you can see a distinct difference in their manner and ours. I was never treated rudely. Of course, this was all before 9/11 and the war so I don't know how that has changed things. As a whole, I found the Irish and Scottish to be the most warm and welcoming.

England is pretty multi-cultural. In general we are very accommodating and welcoming to people from other places in the world. Just as you guys have a stereotyped view of us Brits as being posh tea-drinking friends of the queen, we have similar stereotypes of Americans (Fat, stupid, loud, impolite, a culture of violence). However, the vast majority of us know not to judge a person by their stereotype. I have found most of the Americans I've met to be warm, outgoing, friendly and kind, many of them very intelligent, polite, peaceloving and not in the least overweight. If you do decide to come to the UK, I think you will find people to be friendly and helpful, as long as you do not live up to the stereotype they may be expecting to see, in other words, make a special effort to be polite, take the time to learn about and understand our culture, and don't tell us how everything is so much better in the USA! I hope you decide to take your trip over here, and that you enjoy it!

The individuals that I even have met in my existence have continuously been particularly intense-high quality and friendly, and that i visit never choose somebody because of the fact of the place somebody comes from, it may rely on what that individual is like as a individual. Me individually i do no longer concepts individuals or united statesa. and maximum stereotypes are in simple terms bull, yet I do think of you adult males could develop into much less insular (whilst it includes way of existence and documents comments), and prefer one guy stated you do could stop thinking you invented each little thing, because of the fact it particularly is the little issues which could malicious program people lol. And particular it particularly is particularly ordinary for some small minded people to take a seat on the internet all day in the back of a seen reveal unit and shout approximately how individuals are all fat and stupid and Brits have undesirable tooth, yet enable's settle for it....... head to head could those people particularly say those issues to one yet another?????? i think of no longer!

All I personally really know about Americans is that they talk funny, and loudly at that.
Also, I'm repeating someone else with this, but our opinion of the US government and the US people are not one and the same.
Come and show us how lovely you are, come to the sunny (irony) Suffolk coast!

What we think of your government and what we think of the American people are two very different things.

Come to England! You'll be received well.

Those who have big enough minds to actually make the journey have very few problems. The problem lies with those who do not. See this: http://www.scott-o-rama.com/2007/01/30/why-people-believe-americans-are-stupid/
