I beleive that there is a higher being, but not neccesarily a God. I beleive that homosexuality and abortion should be supported. I beleive that even though Jesus may or may not have been a real person, we can learn alot from his stories. I beleive that the bible is an old story book, and we can learn from it, but should not focus on it. I need a religion that is very very open minded, and have not found it yet. Any suggestions of religions that I could look into? TY!!

You lack faith which is not your fault, it is society's and religious leaders' fault. However there is one church you can go to which embraces all religions, atheists etc. The Unitarian church. I don't belong to it, but I hear that it is ok.

There is no such religion that I ever heard of. I am not a religious person myself but I don't know what you mean about abortion and homosexuality being supported. Supported how? I find abortion to be bad and here is why. At some point from conception to birth a fertilized egg becomes a human. I do not know exactly when and neither does anyone else. Therefore I do not feel comfortable saying that a human is not being destroyed by an abortionist. If that little thing is really a person, he/she has rights too. Simple as that.

I think that homosexual people are just people who happen to be sexually disoriented. I don't know why they are but for some reason they are. I don't hate or fear them but I know they are not behaving normally. I do not see any reasonable case for their abnormal behavior to be normalized.

I don't think the Bible is a just a storybook. The Christian Bible is a compilation of writings that were selected to be the cannon of the church. It is by no means a comprehensive collection of every religious writing available at the time. If you wish to believe that these are the correct writing according to the cannon of your church then you are a member of that religion. If you don't you aren't.

I have read most of the other writings that were excluded from the Bible as well as the Bible itself. I do have my own beliefs but to be honest, my own beliefs are no more provable than anyone elses.

All of these writings whether or not they were included in the Bible are uncanny. What seems pretty clear to me is that something pretty profound happened back then. It was so remarkable that people all over the place starting writting about it. And, even more remarkably, people all over the world learned of it. Do you realize how hard it must have been for these words to be spread in such a primitive world where nearly no one was literate and many different languages and dialects were spoken? But it happened. Never happened before then and did not happen after. I must give it more credit than must being a book of fairtales.

By definition, religions are not open minded. They are a group of specific, defined beliefs. To belong to that religion one must accept those specific defined beliefs or cannon. Some people have tried to start open minded religions but they actually are non-religions. Sort of like saying we believe in not believing in anything.

It sounds like you do not have nor do you want a religion. You have already thought up or received from Hollywood or the Elitist media your values.

I think you can cross off your doubt that Jesus was a "real person" since there is plenty of evidence even outside of the Bible that He was real. The real question for most people is if Jesus was a prophet, son of God, the Christ, etc.

I suggest you turn not to your own understanding but seek out the truth, weigh the evidences, use logic. Turn to many resources for your information -- not just your peers and what you see on TV. God gave us the innate desire to figure out the meaning of our lives -- it is up to us to figure it out. IF you actually investigate/study the Bible (which I believe is God's Word), you will find out there are consequences for our decisions & actions so it would be in your best interest to find out as much as you can.

Good luck.

Think about it -- figure it out.

Try looking up the various pagan religions. What you put down meshes pretty much with my beliefs. I am an eclectic pagan, which means I pretty much don't follow any one path but make my own. If the idea of being called a pagan scares you, it's OK. I was freeked by the term before I knew what it meant.

Paganism is just a belief in multiple faces of god. You can worship a specific deity or deities, or just a generic all powerful being. YOu can activly participate or you can be a solitary and worship in your own way.

If you have any questions, please let me know and we can talk.

You are thinking which is the best thing you could do. Continue it. Religion SHOULD BE a social gathering of like minded people. What it has become is different fanatical cults brainwashing people to their way of thinking. Buddism is a good start, at least the philosophy. Liberal christian groups abound, but they are put down by the fanatical christians. I went to a sanctuary church one time, one of those who accept people under all conditions, but they eventually threw me out. Keep looking, you will find your spot some day.

It sounds like you could simply say that you're not religious. Not everyone is; I'm not. If you really want to affiliate yourself with some group, I'd recommend checking up on secular humanism, Unitarian Universalism, etc. They're groups that generally support progressive issues, are accepting of a wide range of spiritual ideas, but tend to not be especially "religious" or theological in bent. Above all, "open-minded" is a good way to describe them.

I don't think you need a religion, do you think it is necessary for you to sleep well at night?? I believe that the important thing is that you find peace within your heart, as for myself I've received Jesus Christ in my life, and that definitely grants me peace. But I'm not here to tell you what to do just to answer your question as an advice. And how can you believe in a higher being that is not a God? I don't judge you but you should know there's quite an incoherence there. God exists everywhere, you should give it a try to get to know him.
Don't crave for a religion, crave for a good life, doing good things and sleeping well at night, knowing your day was good.

I am a believer in Jesus Christ my Lord and my Savior. Christianity is not a religion - it is a way of life that I freely chose of my own freewill.

A Religion is a system of religous beliefs
