,What I mean by "terrorism" is the use of a tactic by a nation, a military or non-military group that is designed to produce sufficient fear in the minds of their opponents that their opponents "give up" or "give in" to the "terrorists" demands. Terrorism has been around in various forms for thousands of years and has been used with varying degrees of success. Kidnapping is an example of terrorism. The school bully is a terrorist. The guy who threatens to blow up an airplane if he isn't taken to Cuba, is a terrorist. Osama bin Laden is a terrorist because he and his movement use tactics such as these to achieve his aims. What are his aims? Aledgedly, the establishment of the "Third Calaphinate" . But that gets into another question.

Terrorism apparently means anything we don't like. For example, if Muslims kill people, that is terrorism. If Americans or Israelis kill people, that is (pick your favorite) self defence, spreading democracy, fighting terrorism, blahblahblah. Basically terrorism is the name that we give to what our "enemies" do. Even though we do the same things.
