Ive heard somewhere that no sleeping really doesnt cause too much damage, but it does cause hallucinations and other things. I wish I could answer your question better.

It really depends on the extent of brain damage. If by awake you mean conscious, there are also levels of consciousness that has to be determined.

I think eventually your body will just shut down before it gets to that point. Even with drugs to keep you awake, at some point your body just can't take anymore and gives out.
