If you are going to keep the dark furniture then I would paint the ceiling a pale off white just to take the "gleam" off from the ceiling. We painted my daughters room dark purple and we left the ceiling white, but she has white furniture. I think a light beige ceiling would add richness to your room.

A friend of mine did his living room in those colors. The white looked completely fine with it. I'm not one who would paint any of my rooms purple, but the room he did looked great and he had the same colors you mentioned.

He used some of those white Greek/Roman columns that you see at many hobby stores along with glass to help accent certain things. He would use the white Greek columns then put glass on top of them to use as like a coffee table or end table or without the glass to put a pot of flowers on or an orchid or something like that.

I wouldn't recommend going with the light lavender ceiling, unless you want the Barbie doll package look.

I say go ahead and try it. It should look great.

The contrast would be too much. Go for a lighter to medium shade of purple for the ceiling if the walls are dark purple. I think your idea is great though.

I think a lighter shade of purple or lavender would work best. For the walls, use a tinted primer before you paint or you'll be using 4 or 5 coats of paint to get it right.

YES!!! if i were you, i would choose a matching purple wallpaper with a very simple or bold pattern. Or, you could paint the ceiling a shade or two lighter than the wall.

I would do a really light lavender ceiling. I think white would be to much of a sharp contrast and would draw your eyes straight up.
