I really don't know. Christianity makes no sense at all.

According to the bible - there was a way for people to be forgiven. Asking. Many people get confused about the whole blood sacrifice thing. In Levitcus it says that blood only saves from unintentional wrong doing. In the Jewish religion, if you intentionaly go against God you must ask for forgiveness. There is no other way. Which is the same as Christianity - with the whole Jesus thing.

Which is one of the reasons why so few Jewish people converted. They didn't understand why Jesus would have to die to allow them to do something they could already do. Gentiles on the other hand, were not well versed in the Jewish faith and didn't know this was already an option. So they were more easy to convert over.

Personally - I think it's a bit far fetched. And there are Pagan religions with stories that closely match that of Christianity. It's always bothered me as to why God would have to sacrifice himself to change his own rules.

As "Hawk" says: "someone has to pay for the injustice and that person was Christ"

God is also a God of *justice* What kind of justice is served by taking accountability and self-responsibility away from the sinner???? In Judaism one must take responsibility for one's own sins. We must ask forgiveness from those we've wronged, make amends, and demonstrate that we will not sin again. Only then can we ask forgiveness from God. Do Christians not have enough faith in God to trust that He will treat them justly, that they have to go through Jesus as an intermediary?

Judaism is a religion of behavior (moderation, accountability, and self restraint) vs. Christianity as a religion of peace of mind.

I like Dee's answer. Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice. And it doesn't surprise me that the first answer is "I think it's weird". Of course it's strange, because pretty much no one would give their life for a pathetic world like ours, but that's how much Jesus loved us, he died for us to set us free. It's too bad people won't take his most precious gift. God is not saving us from himself, he is saving us from evil. Evil is what pulls people away from him. Don't let evil pull you away! I don't mean any disrespect, but I disagree with the answer right above me. Christianity isn't just a peace of mind, I believe that Jesus died for us and rose from the dead. I don't disrespect Judaism, I just believe Jesus has already come. Jews believe the Messiah is coming, so true Jews know that they can't atone for their own sins, they have faith that God is sending the Messiah to save them.

Well because if Jesus wasn't Crucified - we would be asking "where is god " right now - and why isn't "he" punishing me for my sins (or generally about the place).

The religion would have died a death after about 5 years, with questions of "where is god" - or "how can I get away with this - if there is a god"?.

Jesus's crucifixion (for all our sins), gave the Christian religion a convienient everlasting answer to that problem. God isn't punishing us, and actively around and about the place doing his job - and visible - because jesus died for our sins.

It is all utter garbage btw.

If He just let us off with out a mediator which allows for mercy to step in, then He wouldn't be a just God, and if He's not a just God, that would make Him a liar, and if He's a liar, that would make Him not God - in short, that wasn't the ideal solution.

ummmm....because God couldn't figure out why everyone was sinning so he came down from heaven to "walk a mile in our shoes", he died to return to heaven with a better understanding of human nature and a newfound ability to forgive.

That was the point of Christ's sacrifice on the cross so we CAN go to him.

Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

To put it in a story: Death said "someone have to pay for all this sin. it's not free, you know." So Jesus Christ said "I'll give you my blood and the cross for you key." Then Death said "No way!" But Jesus said "you have no chose."

Maybe there is another purpose, like the judgement and final condemnation of evil for taking hold of someone that it should not have?

Amazing how some people just think they know it all, and how their intellect is so supreme.

Some deities are so dramatic.

Seriously, without a figure to start with, and base your religion on, it is hard to get it started. All good businesses have icons. McDonald's has Ronald. Burger King has "the king". Etc.
