they can, but you need to notify the other company asap! they will dump the account back to the original creditor. also notify all the credit reporting agencies asap.

This usually happens when you go into arrears on your credit payments or the credit company sells out. They take a loss on the account while whom ever they sold your account to tries to get the full amount plus any interest on the credit card.

If you're in the middle of a chapter 13, that means you have agreed to repay some or all of the debt.

They can sell that debt to another company for collection.

Call your bankruptcy lawyer. The credit card company should be sending all correspondence to them anyhow.
