Can we really find out how a man or woman is by how they treat their parents?

A person can be judged by the way he treats his parents. If he disrespects them, he will disrespect others. You may say your parents are no good. God didn't give you the right to judge them. That is his job. He didn't say honor thy mother and father if they meet your requirements. He just said to honor them.

It can be a sign of character, yes. But it isn't a good set-in-stone rule, for some parents take no pride or responsibility in being parents and aren't really worth honoring. The best one can say about that type of biological participant is, "Oh, well, at least they gave me life."

A better rule would be "Parents will do their best to rear children in a responsible, loving, and nurturing way."

Some parents don't deserve to be honored. Look at all the children who have been physically, mentally, and sexually abused by their parents. You wouldn't honor or respect someone like that so why should their children?

I suppose that it says something about them. But I would also treat each case as it's own.

That promise is not something that I focus on. I don't want to have long days being on this Earth. I want to 'move on'. But as a Christian, it will be in God's time.

AHA! I was just thinking about that.

It's such a load of crap I can't believe anyone can buy into it.

Supposedly if you're good to your parents, you will live a long life. Right? Does that then mean that if someone dies young, they were NOT good to their parents? And is it an actual guarantee that if you're good to your parents, you will live until you're quite old? An honest to goodness, written in blood guarantee?

How would then one explain someone who is very good to their parents but still dies young? Must one assume that, all evidence to the contrary, they were secretly NOT good? Or do we then hear that god works in mysterious ways?

This one really really puzzles me.

I believe so. Someone who treats their parents like dirt, to me is more apt to treat everyone like dirt. I honor my parents in every aspect of the word

I say no. What if one is trying to be better than their parents? What if one's parents were pieces of **** and no one honors them? What if your parents don't honor you? Honor must be earned, you shouldn't honor someone just for birthing you.

Its is still in effect, although not popular in today's society. God never changes, so we are still supposed to obey it.

It flew out the window when parents (thanks to the courts) became terrified of their own children.
