I have been on the R&S section for a while and I have started to see an uprise in people saying that there is no such thing as an atheist. I have to ask how did this come about? How can something that just means (for lack of a better term) lack of religion be fake?
I ask this question becuase I have seen alot of christians try to "prove" this. The most recent one while it also might be the best example of the logic behind it is this
"So called Atheists, will you take this challenge?"
"First you have to confess there is a God,then prove that you don't believe in him. That way you can prove my point that there is no such thing as an Atheist.May Jesus bless."
And I do love how it is not his point it was someone before him that tried to make the point but failed just like him.
So I will ask again how did this question come about. It makes no sense...

Hmm...mzJakes you said
"Atheism is based on a false premise...that is the absolute knowledge that there is no God. As this is unknowable, to claim to be an atheist is intellectually dishonest.
To believe there is no God is quite a bit different from knowing it. Therefore, it is more proper to say that one is agnostic."
So if we do not have "absolute knowledge" that there is no god how can you that there is? So in your logic everyone should be agnostic? So that means there are no longer any christians?

Look, most people have no idea what the words "atheist" and "agnostic" mean. I will clarify:
To be an atheist means that you simply do not believe there is a supreme being. It DOES NOT mean that you KNOW there isn't one, just that you don't believe there's one.
To be an agnostic means that you believe there is a god, but you don't know who he is (or they are).
Simple. Now it's very easy to say that there are atheists, because (like me) some people simply don't believe there is a god.

being an atheist, i can only surmise that what this person is trying to say is that atheism is itself a type of religion because trying to disprove god requires a certain faith or belief. this cannot be further from the truth of what atheism really means. atheism is simply lack of belief in a superntaural being responsible for the creation of the universe. an atheist does not know how or why this universe exists, but neither do theists. the difference is, atheists say they dont know because no evidence exists to confirm this notion. theists have created elaborate visions and INSIST this is correct and have no more evidence to prove it than the atheist does.

They are being told from the pulpits of America that there is no such thing as an Atheist. They are being told that Atheists simply want to live debaucherous lives and "pretend" that there is no god. They are being told that everything and everyone has a need for god and feels it deep inside....the so called Atheists are just in rebellion and/or are scared of god.
And like good little believers....they believe.

An 'atheist' is a concept and as 'true' as any concept can be, used to re-present, as well as it can, a vital but personal experience. We have no ethical, nor moral, right to interfere with the concepts another chooses to define himself and his experience. It is real to him. It may not be real to another but that doesn´t mean anything. We all have the privilege to define our own selves.
The wish that others should see through our eyes (mindset) and, even worse, be like us is not uncommon.

It is the teaching of some religious groups that we all have a contact from their god and we either accept it, reject it or misinterpret it.
To these people, the only way you can be an atheist is to have met a god and lied about it.
It's very silly.

Here's the correct answer to your question:
"religion is Spiritual fraud"; "religion is the Worse invention of humanity" - Jesus Christ
Create a private, personal, direct, divine relationship with Our Creator and save your Soul from religion.
Only with Our Creator's Love and Peace will we be Truely Free!
Without God, there is No Love; Without religion, there are No Wars!
atheists and religious people are the same!

words that fly out of the mouth without any thought or prompting are in the heart. When an alleged atheist almost wrecks his car or is threatened by sudden death and saved from it...listen to the words out of their heart. I bet it's not "oh thank that couch, or bubble gum or whatever they think created them. It's God.

Does it really need to be specifically stated that the people saying these things are idiots? If so, there ya go.
"Christians" can't conceive of anybody being atheist - that's just the extent of their programming. (Thanks "JC Redding" for the poignant example.)
But "Christians" can't "prove" anything - can't even grasp the nature of proof or "truth," having utterly subjugated their brains to the puerile idiocies of their dogma.
