Hyperthyroidism won't cause those problems. HYPOthyroidism might. Yes, it's far more common in women, but certain not uncommon in men.
It could be a phase he is going through, and it could be signs of a medical condition. Or he could simply be one of those people who never gets in a hurry. Discuss your concerns with his pediatrician and he can recommend tests if needed.

Is this something you just noticed, or has he always been slow?
If it is a new behavior, I would suspect he's smoking pot or maybe on some other kind of drug. Now, before you go into total parental denial, please consider the fact that middle school age is when drugs are most heavily pushed. And IF he is using, it does not make you a bad parent. Kids are subject to a lot of stress and pressure, and maybe he got mixed up with a bad crowd.
Teenagers need their parents more than they let on... so be there for him and help him become the best he can be.

I don't really think hyperthyroid has anything to do with his slowness. If he's average, it's likely he is just unmotivated. If he performs well on standardized tests, there probably isn't anything wrong cognitively. Perhaps you can find more ways to get him excited about things. My daughter is the same way, and she's really just an unmotivated person in a lot of ways. Exercise and team sports sometimes help with that...
Good luck!

If he has recently started this behavior I would first talk to him about why is he being this way. If you think it's possible there could be a medical issue than you should consult his doctor because there are different medical things that could cause him to be more slow. My children however are slow about things too. They are normal kids with just a lazy mood at times or are interested in something other than what they are suppose to do. Good Luck!

Sounds like a normal 12 yr old to me. This is the age hormones
are roaring, girls are worser.
Just let him be, he will get better in his teens.
thyroid problems could run either way, he probably just needs
iron foods like eat more meats for energy.
kelp tablets are excellent for thyroid troubles
Seafoods are great to prevent thyroid troubles.

I would mention this to his doctor. See what they say. Maybe he does have a problem and it needs to be acknowledeged before it gets worse or maybe he just takes his time on doing things to make sure they are done right and not half. Good Luck .
