Wow, we need more funding for education (or more education for fundies!)
The truth is that its all a matter of want... they want a god, they don't want truth (which is funny because evo is really just a mechanism for adaption, not the explanation of lifes beginning). They want comfort and thus they believe it to be as simple as following a little set of rules drawn up in a violent and masochistic book, because its easier than being a good person in general.

It is the way religion is taught to children. Many religious organizations and parrents teach there children that evidence is not needed to make informed decisions about the world around them. That ALL the information can be decerned from feelings and the bible or other dogmatic literature. Almost all people at some point seperate this religious outlook and adopt a rational one that they use for day to day life. Yet they will switch back as soon as a topic or situation pertaining to there religion is encountered. Everyone has a differant place that they insert this partition on thought process and thats why some thiests believe evolution though natural selection is-
A. correct
B. mostly correct
C. somewhat correct
D. slightly correct
E. incorrect
and all other possibilities.
I do wish people would quit claiming that there are more than a TINY handfull of evolution related scientists that discount it. A beliefe that needs propaganda is a pretty crappy beliefe.
The people who think science is "OUT TO GET THEM" should by all accounts live like our recent ( or not so recent depending on how you look at it ) ancestors without tools and technology.
I happen to know that many public schools in the bible belt refrain from teaching evolution out of fear of majority and personal oppinoin.
Disclaimer: all statements above are the oppinions of Derbonic and are subject to change. Simply put , I thought about your question and did my best within the confines of my experience to supply the most honest answer I could.

What is it about science that prevents people from trusting the evidence that the Bible provides?
after all, As God's Creations this is why our senses work so well...so that we can detect danger, deception, fraud, malice, coercion and all other maladaptive traits of humanity exploited by science.
Hey, it works both ways....hehehehehehe!

Actually both are theories created by human beings. Both are guiding you to lead a good life without doing any harm to others.Religion try to achieve it through a ideal human being i.e. GOD . Evolution try to change your life for the good by teaching you about your beginning and the present stage and make you realize yourself how you should be different from your ancestors . But the pity is both failed in todays world.

There is plenty of evidence AGAINST EVOLUTION:.
First, the 'Cambrian explosion'...... the millions of fossil types in Cambrian rock (oldest fossil bearing rocks) appear suddenly and fully formed and without any previous forms...IOW, there are no transitional forms.
Most well educated evolutionists, when forced to, will admit it, but very unwillingly, and even then they always want to seem to make new excuses for it. Usually they just don't say anything about it and hope noone finds out.
The thing to remember is that evolution is still just a theory - a hypothesis, a speculation, an unproven assumption.
According to Scripture NOTHING evolved but everything was created "AFTER THEIR KIND"....which is directly consistent with the fossil record.
"From the beginning of the Creation God made them male and female..."-- Jesus (Mk. 10:6)
Scripture says God SPOKE all things into existence with His Word:
" By the Word of the Lord were the heavens created, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.... For HE SPAKE AND IT WAS DONE; HE COMMANDED AND IT STOOD FAST". (psalm 33:6-9)

It's not religion at fault. Most Christians, for example, believe in evolution.
There is a subset of Christianity that uses fear of evolution (and science) as a recruiting and retention technique.

religion can't prove their own beliefs.............
let alone any proof from Science!
Here's the Solution:
"religion is Spiritual fraud"; "religion is the Worse invention of humanity" - Jesus Christ
Create a private, personal, direct, divine relationship with Our Creator and save your Soul from religion.
Only with Our Creator's Love and Peace will we be Truely Free!
Without God, there is No Love; Without religion, there are No Wars!

Evolution negates the need to believe in a creator. I think that's probably why some theists deny it.

What evidence?
Some scientists see changes within a species and assume these change will eventually produce a different kind of animal; there is no proof that dogs evolved into or from anything except more dogs. There is no proof that anything evolved from Homo Habilis.
