was thinking of going in the last week of august, does any one know how the climate will be or has any one been during this time, and what have you thought of it. i heard Palolem is the best 'idyllic' beach but what is the accommodation like there during august?
any suggestions will be appreciated

thank you for your suggestions - they have all really helped. im going to india for 5 weeks over summer and i just wanted to know if it was worth spending one week at the end to go to goa, as i have never been and wont get a chance to go this winter.

Have to ask yourself why are you going. If for example you are after a beach holiday (ie sun sea and sand) I doubt you will get it. If you are after a break and don't mind getting wet, then go for it. I would question pallolem as I believe the place shuts down effectivly around August (not sure how true it is), and bamboo huts will not be ieal as it will be humid and you may need a/c. I do know calangute stays open, and 70%+ of the restaurants remain open, and you can find very good quality accomodation. Speaking of which if you are looking for an apartment in calangute, then let me know.

Very bad idea.!.!
The monsoon hits Goa between June and the end of September, many places close up shop at this time. From late Oct to Feb the climate is near perfect.
Palolem is a nice beach, accommodation is mainly in bamboo huts. I was there last November.

yes it is a bad idea as this is in the monsoon and it will be very humid also the sea comes right in and you will niot be able to go on the beach, we have been going to goa since 1999, but we would onlygo between nov and april, ideally going dec, jan or feb. palolem beach as gone a bit crazy now, not as idyllic as it used to be. we stay at bogmallo beach south goa but only 15mins from airport. the accom is a lot cheaper in august throughout goa due to the monsoon.

I can't offer you any advice, but some comrade-like solace. I'm travelling from Mumbai - Goa - Kerala at the end of August. I know its monsoon time, and don't relish the rain, but have been told it's not entirely hideous. I've been told to expect some rain every day, but also to expect lots of sunny spells (albeit short ones). I agree that it may not be beach weather, but I think there's more to Goa than this. Despite being told that June-September was monsoon season in Goa, I visited in end July 2004. The weather was fine, with only one day of rain during the week. However, it may be different this year.

As far as I know its not a good time. Its kind of the middle of the monsoon season.
I've not been to Goa myself but I regularly visit my cousins who live a couple of states north of goa along the same coast line, Gujarat to be precise.
I have so far, every time, been there around this period due to being in Full time education. I wouldn't reccomend for beach holiday during this season.

accommodation is cheap, beaches are all idyllic cos every one has gone home, ie, beech sellers. though the few still remain. plenty of life still going on. palolem, at this time , might be a bit dead, north Goa is were all the life is,,, lots of pats, and backpackers...

hi, thats a reliable decision! 20K is a good funds for a week of stay, food or maybe procuring :) Goa is the most vacationer pleasant position in India and climate will be marvelous too in November! have a good time with ur holiday and likely.. congratulations! :)

I believe it's their monsoon season then, it is really a winter destination!
