Every TV has a native pixel resolution, example 1366x768
Signals have their own resolution, 1280x720, etc.

The TV's processor attempts to scale in the best possible way the signal resolution to its own.

For example, if the input is 720x480i ; the TV sees two fields 720x240 each. It combines the two fields to create a 720x480 image which then is scaled to its native resolution, say 1280x720.
