At the Bic web site, they say the average Bic pen can write between two and three kilometers. I guess you could set up some artificial situation in which you try to empty a ballpoint pen as quickly as possible. Putting a band of paper on the outside of a paint can, and spinning the can with a motor (an electric drill maybe) while marking a line on the can with a ballpoint pen would be easy to do. You if you were neat about it, and moved the pen slowly down the length of the can as it rotates, count the lines, and you could come up with a good estimate of the length of the line. I suspect there's a limit to how fast the pen can deliver link to the ball, but you could easily work that out through trial and error, and a box of Bics.
