Any Doctors or Med Students Out There
Could you please tell me how one becomes a doctor and
what age range a doctor usually is when he/she has
his/her own practice. And do doctors make a lot of
money or no? And a little of what it's like to be a
doctor.

See, I'm writting a book about kids in an orphanage
and I have a chacter that is a doctor (pediatrician)
for the orphans, whom adopts one of the girls in the
orphanage.
I just want to make sure I get the right background
for this character. I'm trying to make everything
perfect by researching orphanages, foster care,
adoption, ect.... It would be a great help if you
could give me some info on doctors.

I've posted links detailing the requirements for entry to medical school, another outlining the requirements for residency training in pediatrics, and a third reporting recent physician salary ranges.

Between the entry to medical school and the beginning of pediatrics residency training is four years of medical school. The structure of that education is variable but generally includes two years of 'basic sciences' and two years of clinical training.

Hello there! I am a 2nd year medical student and about next 2 months, I will be in 3rd year med. I am studying here in the Philippines. Here, we graduate in highschool by the age of around 17, then we take up a 4year course that is inclined in science that would prepare us for medicine like BS Biology, BS Botany, BS Psychology, BS Medical Technology. Or you may take a 2 year pre-med in general science offered by some universities. So, we graduate in collge by the age of around 21 or 22. After then you can proceed directly to medicine which is a four year course. From 1st year to 3rd year, mostly lectures and laboratories, and 4th year is internship with 24 hour duty in a hospital. After 4th year, we graduate but we need another year for our PGI or post graduate internship which is a requirement in taking the board exams. After passing the board exams, age is about 27, you go to residency training for your specialty, for Pediatrics it is about 3 to 4 years depending upon the hospital accredited for training. So by the time you become a pediatrician, age is about 31 or 32 and you need bout 5 years to establish your carrier, age is 37. Doctors here in the Philippines do not earn a lot, but Doctors there in the State really earn a lot of money. Well I still have a really long way to go though. Don't for get to give me a copy of your story...my email is michael_busa@yahoo.com. That is if you want to...
