I have a Dell Computer and I wanted to connect my Canon Optura 50 to my computer so I can record it onto a DVD. The problem is I don't have the cable to connect it. When I researched the cable it's telling me that I need a Firewire port and that it's not a USB port. How do I know if I have this? Is it standard?

On my computer is in "Device Manager" it's listed as
"IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers"
I also have a Canon Optura 50. I use Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video to my computer and it works quite well.

Try windows device manager. Right click on my computer, click properties, click the "Hardware" tab and click on device manager. Search through the different categories, and it will say IEEE 1394 or just 1394 port if you have one. If not, you can buy a firewire adapter card at your local electronics store or online for less than $50. Hope this helps!
