Charlotte Brew, who's record is as good as A.P.

Charlotte Brew is the correct answer of course! In 1977, at the age of 21, Charlotte Brew became the first woman to ride in the Grand National. Brew and 200-1 shot Barony Fort were tailed off by the halfway stage but kept going until the horse eventually refused four fences from home. Today, as Charlotte Budd, she runs a catering company in Somerset.

National Velvet (staring a young Elizabeth Taylor as Velvet Brown) is a film about a young girl entering the National with a horse she won in a raffle. In the film the horse is of chestnut colour, but in the book he was piebald hence he was called 'The Pie'.
