I have a navel piercing and I don't know what type of saline solution to buy, is it alright to mix salt in warm water and soak a cotton pad in it and cover the piercing with the pad?

Saline solution is salt dissolved in water. There is no other type.

Contact lens solution probably contains other stuff which may or may not be good for healing piercings - and if it contains salt at all then it's probably not in a high enough concentration to do much good.

Just dissolve a couple of teaspoons of salt in a cup of water that has been boiled and them cooled down so that it's luke warm and it'll work fine.

There is very little difference between sea salt and table salt other than where it was made - sea salt comes from evaporating sea water, while most table salt is dug out of salt deposits in the ground (which got there when ancient seas evaporated thousands of years ago - so it's just very old sea salt!). Sea salt sometimes contains a few other minerals as well (e.g. iodine) while table salt is usually purified. Both are basically Sodium Chloride and both are equally good.

Epsum Salt is what you mix with the warm water. It comes in half gallon (milk container looking) in a pharmacy.

What I did, was got some dixie cups and filled to about 3/4's depth and added the epsum salt, lean over and put the cup on your belly and very carefully lay down on your back.

Good Luck!

Use alcohol wipes or saline solution, you can make the solution yourself.. About 2 teaspoons non-iodised to a cup of water that has been boiled, wipe on and around the belly-button and ring when the water is warm.. Goodluck!! :-) x x
