this means you have points on your licence and won't be able to hire cars. However if you went to Europe and got an EU licence would you be able to come back here and hire cars using that licence?

I'll answer your question without commenting on the crime!

You could move to another country and take their tests to gain their licence. You'd need to be fluent in the language, understand their traffic system and, above all, be resident there - a bit extreme, I'd have thought . . .

I suppose theoretically you could, but have you considered the cost?
The first thing is you can't just change your licence, otherwise every country would be inundated with requests from convicted 'drink drivers' from other countries wanting a new licence, many no doubt using this system over and over again in different countries
U.K. is fairly unique in the fact that anyone with a driving licence can teach someone else to drive (as long as that person has a provisional licence) Whereas in most (? all?) other countries in the E.U., you have to be taught by a recognised instructor. In other words a driving school, so you will have to book so many lessons to be able to go for the driving test with their car. Then there is the cost of the test itself. Plus where is your permanent address in all this? Still in U.K.?, forget it!
Sorry, but the short answer is DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE.

if you are stupid enough to get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol you shouldnt be able to hire a car either withyour uk licence or an eu licence.
loss of licence should mean just that, no licence here or in the eu.

You should have thought of that before you started drinking. The ban and fine are only the first parts of the punishment.

You are now experiencing the other after effects.

Not sure how an EU licence will help you - is there such a thing or is it just a driving licence issued by another EU country?
