it restarts even though I choose "shut down" and then loads and opens a window that says " the system has recovered fro a serious error" with a view details, which list two long ungodly numbers, mostly zeros, then view error reports, which list two ungodly file names in locals... please help me ! goin crazy here !

Sounds like your computer is forcing itself to restart while doing a shutdown. it could be one of the processes running errors out when you try to stop it for shutdown. The process may be something infected in your computer like a virus.

www.free-av.com (anti-virus) (best yet)
then get Spybot and Adaware.

Run those and maybe it will find a faulty file causing this.

get the program called free ram xp pro, then right click it and select force shutdown. That should work.

do you have strong spyware/adware programs on your computer?
sometimes those wont let your computer shut down in case you didnt do it voluntarily. You should either try to turn it off when you shut down your computer, or just pull the plug
