You can't say.
What you CAN say is what would have happened if president Roosevelt had been asking that question about Europe in World War II.
I'm convinced he did the right thing and I have a lot of respect for all those soldiers who died on foreign soil, for a country that wasn't theirs, to make the world a better place.
I think they succeeded in that, and unfortunately you don't get there by playing it safe.

More Taliban will die than our troops. I can confidently state that since I have yet to see a single engagement where our guys did not kill several times the number of casualties that were taken.

500-5000 enemy Taliban and Al qaeda. Our carriers in the region will support NATO as well as U.S. in offensive operations against anti-coalition militia!

as far as i can tell, several million small fire rounds will be shot off, millions of dollars worth of bombs from jets flying overhead, there will be tanks and artillery fire, and whatever else they can use to make lots of smoke and noise. When the dust settles, there will be claims on both sides of massive kill counts, and counter claims, and pretty much five goats and three civilian children will be killed or injured.. two "friendly fire" accidents killing the winners of the big poker game before the debts could be collected, and then its back to business as usual.
