They do differ, depending on the amount of activities they do during the morning but around about 3 years old. My daughter still liked her afternoon sleep until she was 4+ and was most upset when she had to return to school in the afternoon and couldn't have her lie down. It was only one day that she refused to have her lie down, but if it continues then you can still have your sit down time by explaining to her that although she may not want to sleep it is now her time to stay in her room and play so that Mummy can have her own time. You would be surprised how children respond to a proper and true explenation of a situation. My Grandson, who I watched all day, from the time he was born was not a great one for lie downs but responded well to being told that Granny needed 45 minutes to herself to have a bath and rest before getting tea ready for the family. He would play quite happily in his room for that amount of time. No longer though, I think they have a built in clock.

In our country most of the children stop afternoon sleep at the age of 8 or 9, as they go to higher grades & Home Work pressure starts. Now a day everywhere there is competition so parents put children to various classes so many a times children feel they are machines & not humans. This can be noticed from their faces.

My daughter , who is 5 now used to have afternoon naps till she was 2. But she then started nursery and there she had to have naps on rugs on the floor, which she disliked. That stopped her naps during the week. She still had her naps at home in the weekends. After she was 3 that stopped as well.

As mom to 3, I can say that mine stopped regular afternoon naps when they started kindergarten. They still occassionally will lay down and take a nap on weekends. Some children need more sleep than others.

All depends on the child. No 1 stopped about 16 months but I forced them back on him about 21 months just before no 2 was born! But those didn't last too long. No2 stopped about 2 years and no 3 about 17 months. I think they were all quite early by all accounts but it does have its advantages too when it comes to getting out and about and bedtimes were a dream!

My son was 2 1/2 but I was the one who cut off his sleeps as I was finally able to get him to sleep through the night in his bed. He would get up every two hours (approx) through the night. Once I discovered that if he didn't nap during the day he would sleep a full night's sleep I decided that I could do without the nap if I could get a full night sleep.

My son was 3 but my daughter never really wanted a nap much after 18 months. Every child is different.

i just let my daughter sleep if i think she needs to. she is 21 months an i was noticing that she wasnt sleeping so well at night if she napped during the day so i dont put her down anymore shes fine and i get a peaceful evening and night as she sleeps from 6:30pm to 8am.but bear in mind that all children are different and it all depends on what activities they do during the day,i do my best to tire her out. i know its horrible the first day they dont nap but u do get used to them being up all day! i think i prefer the quiet evenings!!
