Whole wheat has more fiber. So it will digest more slowly and won't get stored as fat as easily. It also will cause less bloating and won't spike your insulin so you feel like eating again soon.

Do not concearn yourself with the color, it is whole grain that you are looking for. Brown bread or even wheat bread isn't always whole grain. Check the ingredient list it needs to have the word whole in it or forget it. Whole grains have more fiber and digest more naturally.
Also look out for high fructose corn syrup, not only does it have a lot of calories but it stops the production of the hormone that tells you when you are full. Very bad business!
Aspertame also, even though it is zero calorie has been linked to many illnesses and also causes you to crave sugar! Not too good when you are on a diet.
Stick to natural foods. The ones God created for us to eat. Avoid processed garbage. Eat at least one raw meal a day (fruits, nuts, vegetables.) You will loose weight but more importantly be healthy.
Hope this helps!

brown bread should have less refined flour and more fiber. Less refine flour=less carb calories, more fiber=better digestion, elimination and longer hunger satisfaction. But not all brown breads are created equal, look at the contents, see about calories, fiber, carbs. They make them look brown, but are no better for you sometimes, you need to study the lable, but that is the basic benifits of brown bread.

It is because of the carbs. You see you have good and bad carbs. The Bad Carbs are refined and have more sugar, too many of those cause weight gain. As opposed to whole grain bread which has far less refined carbs. Remember Carbs cause weight gain too, but mainly REFINED SUGARY CARBS

Usually - darker bread is natural (whole-grain or 8-grain, something like that is very good).
White bread is mostly flour with some grain and other things they add to it.
