Unless you are very organised and have the space to store all the necessary ingredients, I wouldn't get one.
You have to set the bread going at awkward times if you want it for breakfast or lunch, and it is so easy to forget.
For 'nice' bread, it doesn't work out any cheaper.
For me, it is easier to nip to the bakery when I want a nice loaf than to use the bread maker.

I use mine quite a lot, although not as much as when I first got it. If you eat a lot of bread they are well worth it - they make good bread and the smell is wonderful... I just buy a packet of bread mix from the supermarket and make it that way - much easier than getting all the ingredients separately. I have the room to store the breadmaker on the side rather than in a cupboard which I think encourages me to use it more!

I've had a bread machine for the past eight years or so, and I used to use it at least three times a week. It's great for making pizza dough and dough for French bread, and it's so easy to add the ingredients and walk away. I had a Panasonic model that added the yeast after the other ingredients were mixed, and that was better than other machines I've used. It's not as good as making the dough by hand, but I never have time for that.
I found that I was using the machine only to make dough, never to bake the bread, at about the same time that the motor started to struggle with mixing dough. I replaced it with a stand mixer that has a dough hook, and I've been making dough that way.
What's better for you will depend on how you intend to use the bread machine and, to some extent, your schedule. Yes, it's easier to buy bread at the store, and I sometimes do that, but I like knowing exactly what ingredients are in the foods I give my family!

I got one a couple of Christmas's ago, used it about 5 times, and yep, it's in the cupboard since then.
You can buy some really good bread dough mixes that are really quick to do, and then just pop in the oven.
The breadmaker is easier in the sense, you just put everything in and leave it. It will cook it and voila!!

Yes I find that if I want that extra special touch to a meal then home made bread is just the answer. P lus the fact that you can always have shop bought bread mixes in the cupboard for emergencies or if friends come round unexspectadley

Lulu is right, why put talent in a cupboard?? Actually, a lot of bread recipes out there right now also take into account the bread machine.

The first month you have it you will be raving on about the smell of cooked bread in the home and if you get brave you will even be baking cakes in it..... after the month you will have forgotten you have it then further down the line someone will be buying it on ebay or a car boot sale for 3 quid, that happened with mine and my families anyway lol

Absolutely. I bought one when we retired to Spain and it makes perfect wholemeal bread, fruit loaf, pizza dough and ciabatta dough for rolls etc. Once you get the combination of flours that suit you and have a packet of dried milk powder always in the house, you can have a loaf to die for in just 3 hours. Easily the best piece of kitchen equipment we ever bought. Bread tastes better than any shop bought stuff and keeps perfectly fresh in the freezer.

Yes, you should get one. I'm on my third one right now because I wear them out. The most fun cycle is the dough cycle. When it beeps you can add garlic powder, basil, oregano, whatever. Then you get to form it and bake it in the oven. I even have a recipe for a chili-cheese bread. Or you can just flatten out the dough and stuff it with things like pepperoni, feta, cheddar, pesto, you name it. I use mine about once a week.

I have to agree with the comments above. Mine has been collecting dust in my basement. I use it on a very rare occasion when I am making marinara sauce or homemade soup. It is too easy to get fresh made bread from any grocery store these days.
