I was just in Chile in November. At that point it was warm, but not too hot. Their summer was just starting then, but they should be moving into fall in April, so I would imagine that the weather would be fairly mild. I found the people to be totally welcoming and gracious. Pretty much everybody was friendly to me. I think that Santiago is a phenomenal city. It has so much history and amazing architecture mixed with a really modern city feel. I would suggest riding a bike around town if you're up for a thrill. Outside of Santiago I would suggest visiting Pucon (south) or San Carlos de Atacama (north). Have fun!

I lives in Santiago for 2 years.
At this time the weather is pretty hot and if feels very bad because Santiago is also very dry. Santiago has some nice places, like the area in Las Condes close to "Golf Los Leones". The area around Isidora Goyenechea and Bosque Norte is very nice, with some cafes and restaurants. a visit to the Santa Rita Vineyard and Restaurant is a must. You might also like to visit Cerro San Cristobal.
Outside of Santiago, the are of the lakes (South) around the island of Chiloé, Frutillar, Puerto Montt, etc is magnificent.

The north is very dry, but you have the Atacama salt lake and a number of strange formations (Valle de la Luna) and geysers (Geyser el Tatío) which are also nice.

I know the Capital of Chile is called: Santiago. I know that Chile was once ruled by a dictator called Augusto Pinochet. The Current President of Chile is called Sebastián Piñera. I know it has happened a lot of terrible earthquakes and I can even remember last years strong earthquake! I can even remember the mine accident, but as luckily the 33 miners survived and returned back up!
