Cavaliers have different personalities and are a very different breed than cockers. They are in general very sweet, friendly, gentle little dogs and generally do not bark much. Their personalities are very similar to my two golden retrievers, only smaller. My sister has two of them and they are very gentle around her toddler grandchildren. The only thing I would recommend is supervision around small kids, not so much because the dogs might hurt a child but because toddlers can be rough and may hurt a small dog.

I'm not sure who told you that cocker spaniels are not good around children. They are very happy and loving dogs. I have had cocker spaniels my daughters whole life and she is 16 now. Neither one of them has never even snipped at her. I think you should reconsider the breed. Just advice from a cocker spaniel lover....

I had have known 2 cocker spaniels in my life. Both were spun and wouldnt listen. Im not saying that all cockers are like that, it has just been my experience. CKCS are very calm and loving. The best thing you can do is visit some breeders in your are and see if they are a good match for you. Everyone has thier preferences. Ohh, and beware of the breeder that says thier breed has no faults....they all do.

I agree with Bozema. I have two Cavaliers and both are very affectionate dogs, however, a toddler may not realize that the dogs are also small boned and not Dobermans. I've never had my dogs around children, so I would just say that with whatever breed you choose, make sure there is good supervision.

My 13 year old cocker loves my 2 week old son to pieces. She is very protective and accepted him readily into the pack. It may be that training and attention to details will help you far greater than choosing a breed of dog. I have 4 dogs at home and on paper none of them are supposed to be good with kids yet they all love my son and protect him though he is just barely our of the womb.

They say that the Kings are a little skittish around little ones...they are also prone to running off, so it would be double time looking after the dog and the kids...but, it can work if you want it to!!...and I don't think it is in the cocker spaniel family, athough, I will google now!!

You cant just go by breed. There are nice dogs and not so nice dogs in every breed. I recently met a KCC and he was incredibly docile and sweet.
