i've always been a animal lover and have always had all my animals fixed. Trixie is such a great little dog and we would love to have one of her offspring. I just am not sure if the 12 year old dog is to old to breed with her

I would defer this question to a vet or breeder, but in human terms, a male can father at any age, so I would suspect that the male yorkie could do the same...I would only think that his sperm count may be lower than of a younger dog and that might inhibit the progress some...it could not hurt if you are willing to give it a try....we had two gorgeous female yorkies (the tiny black and tan) and I wish we had an offspring..they were the best!!

After the age of 12 you need a veterinarian to certify that he is the actual father and produces live sperm if you want AKC registration papers. It is a magical number, you don't need that at 11 year of age. But like any number, there is really NO magic it is an arbitrary number. If the dog is producing at 12 he is in good health, many can't, some still can. I would think in Yorkies he may, and getting a veterinarian to certify that he is, is not hard to do as any vet could do that.

Yes he is aged out. You will need to get a vet certificate stating that he is still alive to send in with the litter registration.
Problem really is, how much of a punch does he still pack. You will want a vet to do a sperm count before you bother.

Old people need lovin' too. What is it gonna hurt? I wouldn't try it if it were the other way around, but what do you have to lose? The genes are not atrophied, it just may take a bit more time to get his groove on!

The male is very old!!! I'd pass on this one, his sperm may not be the best to have a good litter. The older the male the more the probability that deformities can show up in the litter.

I would think after 9 years old it would be too dangerous but you should talk to a vet and ask his opinion.

Unless both dogs are champions, don't do it. Dogs also have to have several tests done to make sure they are even healthy enough to breed and you also have to have genetic testing done.
