What kind of a name is "Jolly Rancher"???? How in the world did they come up with that name for a candy?

I don't know or care....all I do know is that the watermelon jolly rancher are DA BOMB...SO GOOD....

The original candies were made by the Jolly Rancher Candy Company, which ws originally a mom-and pop shop on the street.
Why was it called Jolly Rancher to begin with? Quoting from the third link I have listed below...
"They called the company Jolly Rancher to suggest a hospitable, western company. The company originally made ice cream, chocolate and hard candy. As hard candy sales grew, however, they began to concentrate on developing their "Famous for Flavor" line of hard candies."

Good point, because they aren't Jolly - unless you consider the fact that if you give a small child lots of them because of the additives in them he or she certain will be very jolly. And if you put them in a ranchers costume then they will be jolly ranchers :-)

right, see my wife, she weighs upward of three fifty and she was out drivin' the four wheeled harley, when she come upon a farmer what got hit by a car and she bent over that pulpy farmer and said, "hey pulpy farmer, you maybe want some cpr?" well that guy said, I ain't no pulpy farmer, I am just a jolly rancher, see now gimme some candy

I've often wondered that, myself. I always picture a big gay dude with a beard wearing a flannel shirt and jeans. He makes good candy, though.
