Students work during college so they can receive 2 things valueable in life.
Extra money to help pay for tuition or for little expenses such as meals and gas.
And work experience so that can look good on their resume. Plus they might want to advance through that job after they graduate.

Reasons why college students work:
- Money (to pay for college, food, entertainment like CDs, etc).
- It looks good on resumes.
- For the experience.
- To make new friends.
- To learn a new trade (such as cleaning or cooking).
- Because "everyone else has one."
- To have something to do with spare time.

It's a pretty obvious question to me; because not everyone has the means to get through school AND pay for their daily living expenses without working. Of course most parents would love to provide for their kids in a way that allows them to totally focus on their studies, but unfortunately that's not realistic in a lot of families.

It's because they need practice in doing jobs and work, so after they finish college, they can quickly earn money because they already have had experience before.
It's also because they may need extra money for their family or for their own needs.

We Need Money! =) For example, if i wanna buy whatever i want, and if my parents would give me their money, and i wouldnt work, then they could have more control over me and the money
