First of all if you're serious about boxing quit "sparring" against your friend and get to the gym, specifically a boxing gym. The better your sparring competition the better fighter you'll be. As for not getting there and mixing up, you have to decide what type of fighter it is that you're going to be, are you going to run or are you going to stand there and fight back? There have been plenty of fighters that made it look like they were running but in all actuality they were fighting and winning lets take Floyd Mayweather for example, he looks like a complete coward when he fights but he still wins and he stopping people,

You have to decide what style works best for you, you can fit a square into a circle can you? Maybe it's not your style to be a Jake Lamotta or a Roberto Duran. Get yourself to boxing club and find out what type of fighter you really are.

Thanks for the question 18721169.

I am of the opinion that Floyd fights like a coward, this is my opinion and obviously not yours. Nothing you can or will write will change my opinion. I've been boxing and around boxing for three decades, I know what the object of boxing is and I know what a coward is. RESPECT.

No offense but Floyd Mayweather would NEVER fight like a coward. Listen, the object of boxing is to hit without getting hit in return. He makes it look so easy and that's why he is the best in the world. He could stand in front of you and you would never hit him squarely. THAT is boxing. If you want to talk about fighting, then go check out some clubshow or that MMA crap. Respect.

As to the other part of your question, if you want to improve your offense, then yes, definitely get into a real boxing gym where you will have real sparring partners and a trainer who can teach you offense, defense, footwork, using the ring, conditioning, etc. and not just blocking punches. There is a LOT more to boxing than just that.

Only way is to get hit. Once you get hit and see its not as bad as it seems you will open up more. Your a good defensive fighter, for the fact your always on defense. Thats like when a fighter just runs away just so he can say he went the distance. Only way to overcome your fear in this case is to face it. Once you take a shot and see you can handle it you will move to the next level.
