I was allowed to have a "boyfriend" in middle school. It was puppy love back then. I was not allowed to go on a "real" date when I was 16. I have a little girl she is only 5.... I have awhile to decide when she is allowed to date. I say 35. (j/k)...lol. Seriously though.... prob. not til she is at least 16. I will make that call when she hits 14-15.

I had a boyfriend when I was in middle school but I wasn't allowed to actually go out on a date until 9th grade. For my girls, however, I have different feelings. No one on one dates until they are 16. If they have a boyfriend before that, fine, but they still can't go one on one. I got into a lot of trouble when I was a teenager that looking back was more because my parents were clueless than I was daring. Things went way too fast.and I'm lucky I didn't end up pregnant or worse. My girls need to ease into things with the goal of them becoming completely independant by the time they go off to college. They'll be independant then whether I want them to or not.

12 or 13 mostly with groups of girls and boys, but could not go alone with a guy anywhere until 16. Then could do whatever I wanted when I was 18. As long as I was honest and told my parents where I was we really didn't have any problems...they let me do my thing and they were always aware of where I was and what time I planned to be home...it worked great...I never had to have a curfew by doing this~

I'm going to play it by ear. My kids are young yet, but my parents were very strict as far as dating and I think it retarded my growth as far as relationships go. I didn't have my first boyfriend until I was 18 and he was abusive at that. I'm thinking around 14, but I won't know until the time comes.
I have a son and a daughter. I'm not going to give them special treatment because of their gender. I get sick of hearing my son can do this at 12 but my daughter has to wait until she's 16 because she can get pregnant. Bologna. A boy can have 10 girls pregnant at once. If people would watch their sons the same as they do their daughter's then we wouldn't have to worry about the girls so much. Dating should be based on maturity, education and age. It shouldn't all be based on age.

My children will be able to date once they have jobs and their own money to go out and a car or their own mode of transportation. I refuse to drop my 12 year old off at the mall to meet up with a "boyfriend" and give her money to do so! The world is too sexualized as it is, and I'm not going to put pressure on my child to jump on the bandwagon to early. When she is 16-18 I will consider it, but it all has to do with each child's own maturity also.

I haven't decided yet about my son, but here's what my parents did. They let me start dating when I wanted to, but until I was 16 I went on group dates and my parents drove me there. When I got my license, they let me go as long as they knew exactly where I was and when I would be home. They told me they might randomly stop by to make sure I was where I said I was. They never did, but it kept me from going back to my boyfriend's house.

My parents said 19. My kids are still very young and I think I'll just guide them and let them know of the possible consequences...

You don't let them, it just happens...what you let them do with their bf/gf is another matter....I was lucky, neither of my kids had one until way into high school....
