When I opened this thread I expected to find some goofy person say something that had no basis for truth and wasn't disappointed in the misinformation going around about Atkins. If the average person's breakfast is toast, eggs and bacon, why would eliminating the toast be "dangerous?" If the average person has a sandwich of turkey, swiss and some soup for lunch, what is "unhealthy" about not having the bread? If you have chicken, potato and veggies for dinner, why is it not wise to skip the potato and double up on the veggy? There is no person on earth that can't survive without bread, without potatoes, without rice. ALL of the nutrients in these foods are found, in higher amounts, in other foods. Humans have no innate need for grains or sugar or potatoes or corn.
Atkins should never be approached without reading the book first. Should never be approached if you plan on losing weight then going off of it. Atkins is for life and a lifestyle change. I am a 3 year veteran of Atkins and love this way of eating or as it is often referred to as WOE.
When you begin Atkins for the first 2 weeks you will be on induction which during this time you will limit your carbs to 20 g. You will go into ketosis which during this time it is a fat burning mode. You will also feel sick like you have the flu. Think about how difficult it must be for the body to convert from using sugar as it's main fuel to using fat as it's fuel. That's why you get a headache and a weak feeling. It's a huge adjustment but a healthy one. It's basically withdrawal from a "drug." The reason why the body even stores fat in the first place, is to use it as fuel. My symptoms pass in four days at the most when I start low carb.
For an example meal on induction.
Breakfast
Two scrambled eggs
sausage or bacon
Lunch
Tuna salad made with SF relish and mayo spread on a romaine leaf and rolled up like a wrap.
Or
hamburger topped with cheese
2 tomato slices
Dinner
Grilled Steak
Green beans
Salad
Snack
10 to 20 olives
or
celery stuffed with sour cream and chive dip
or
1/4 cup of almonds
There are so many recipes I have it's not funny. This woe is not boring nor unhealthy.
I lost 50 pounds and kept it off comfortably. I never count carbs or calories just eat legal foods now that I am in maintenance.

breakfast is hot meat, lunch is meat on a salad, dinner is meat and some veggies- if you are lucky. If you are going to follow Atkins, Please make sure you eat alot of carbs once every four days or your body will go into starvation mode, freak out, and make it even harder for you to burn fat. This is because cutting carbs on atkins depletes the muscles of glycogen, you need to fill up the reserves every so often so you can cut carbs the next day and really knock out the fat.
Ask yourself though- Are you prepared to be grouchy, less-than-present, and in generally function at a much much lower physical and mental capacity? Not to mention irrational moodswings to boot.
The best "diet for life" is to take in about 50 carbs in the morning, first thing. Then for all your other meals, half carb/ half protein. This means eating a sandwhich but maybe only one slice of the bread. Add as many healthy fats as you need to feel full. For your last meal, try to have the protein content higher than carb.

high protien
med complex carbs
low fat
no sugar
These four in the line up as they are describes Atkins. It is very successful for a "lifestyle change". I don't suggest you use the term "diet" when learning how to feed your body correctly.
You will notice this format mirrors that of the ADA suggests for diabetics.
If you want to loose weight healthfully, follow a diabetics lifestyle and you will see the pounds drop off and your health improve within weeks.
I lost 39 pounds from eating 6 small meals with 2 very small snacks a day and following the menu suggestions for diabetics.
This only took 4 months. I was unable to exercise due to health but once I started walking again, I followed the program and my weight stabilized instead of moving up and down a pound or two a day.
Good luck and love yourself enough to do this!

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/n8mVb
Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
Fatigue
Nausea
Vomiting
Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Increased appetite
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing infections
Impotence in men
If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.

It's likely that you're eating too fast. Try holding a conversation while sporting a meal so you're not gulping down more than you have to feel full.
