85% of all sore throats are viral. The remaining 15% which are bacterial benefit little statistically from antibiotics, on average settling only 24 hours earlier if they are used, but giving a risk of side effects.
I often use the abbreviation PDS to cover conditions like this, Paracetamol, Drinks and Sympathy! Some of the throat spays like Chlorseptic and Diflamm calm the inflammation down a bit and in my view cool drinks, ice lollies and ice cream are more soothing than hot drinks.
Aspirin and aspirin gargles are often mentioned, they are both probably to be avoided, swallowed aspirin give a gastro-intestinal bleeding risk which is not acceptable, and gargling with it actually increases throat irritation.

This is an old nursing remedy...Mix equal parts of warm salt water, hydrogen peroxide, and an antibacterial mouthwash. Gargle with that mixture every 3-4 hours.

Cloraseptic spray eill numb it. You just spray it in the back of your throat. You can find it anywhere, like a grocerie store, or right aid/ walgreens...

I have found that crushed (crush it with the back of a tea spoon) panadol or crushed asprin mixed with a tea spoon of honey works wonders, hope you feel better soon, Yvette
