The computer I just bought has Windows XP Home Edition and Professional, but I can't seem to find Microsoft Word anywhere..

You cannot download Microsoft word legally for free.

You can however download Open Office, a completely free and totally compatible alternative.

Unfortunately you can't because Microsoft has this product key that is unique to each software that they release. Without the product key even if you manage to download a copy of MS Word you won't be able to use it. However there are sites that you can go to and download a program similar to MS Office, one of the most popular site is openoffice.org. its compatible with win 98 to win xp(hopefully in vista too, but i haven't tried it). It doesnt have any product keys, so it is readily available for download anytime...

You can download Microsoft office trial software from their website. But after the trial period you have to buy a licence
