I take care of a 90 yr old man and the doctor recently discovered blood clots in his legs. They were giving him shots in his stomach, then put him on pills. They took him off 2 days ago, and now he's not feeling well. He fell 3 times in the shower yesterday, and started shivering, saying he couldnt get warm. He doesnt have a fever, nausea. Just slight confusion, but that only happened once for a short time. He wont go to the hospital,. he says that he feels better. Could these problems be because of them taking him off of coumadin?? Or that he could still have too much in his system??

Coumadin is a blood thinner, which could be causing the shivering--he really is colder. The confusion might have something to do with it, too--the thinner your blood, the fewer the red blood cells, which carry oxygen. But it sounds like he's adjusted to the medicine, so he should be fine.

It could possibly be TIA's. If you're his care taker, you should consult the doctor who is prescribing the Coumadin.

At that age it could be almost anything. He really needs to be seen by his doctor
