And white isn't, well not so much.
I love red wine, I find it so relaxing.

In red wines, stems, seeds and skins of red grapes are included during fermentation. The skins are rich w/ anthocyanins. The anthocyanins are the plant pigments. Anthocyanins are antioxidants which means anti-carcinogenic which also means it is healthy. In white wines, only the grape juice is fermented. It does not contain anthocyanins. :)

Red wine is rich in antioxidants, whereas white is not. As red grapes are left longer on the vine I can only presume that they have managed to gain these health benefits by then and that white grapes, harvested when not so ripe do not contain these elements. Red wine is only good for you in moderation though, so don't go drinking a barrel a night :)

Barbara, I have a book here entitled "You-The Owner's Manual" by Dr. Michael F. Roizen and Dr. Mehmet C. Oz. According to them, red wine contains reservatrol, a flavonoid that seems to help decrease the aging of the DNA strand in the mitochondria of a cell. The mitochondria of a cell is where its energy comes from. Flavonoids are antioxidant nutrients, and thus help reduce aging of our arteries and the immune system.

I have read the book from cover to cover and the authors always reiterate that healthy arteries are one of the keys to a healthy and disease-free life. Since flavonoids help reduce the arteries' aging, therefore it is safe to say that red wine can help you stay healthy and young.

Reservatrol comes from the skin of grapes. Because of this, white wine contains less reservatrol than the red due to the fact that red wine has been in contact with the grapeskins for a longer time during fermentation. This prolonged contact is also the reason why red wine has its color.

Drs. Roizen and Oz advise that we drink alcohol in moderate amounts. For men, one to two glasses daily. For women, one half to one glass daily.

I'd say "antioxidents"! I noticed everything you buy now is loaded with antioxidents although they made no mention last year! Sort of goes along with the "fat free" therory, or the "cardiac good health" therory, or I guess what ever will sell the product! We all know how "Corporate America" does business these days!!
Although my Cardiologist suggest a glass of red wine daily, my liver just seems to be yelling back "don't do it"! Possibly Andy Rooney has the answer???????????????????????????????

RED WINE HAS THE ABILITY TO BREAK DOWN FATS IN THE BODY AND THOUGH VINEGARY ON ITS OWN (SOMETIMES) IT CAN ENHANCE THE TASTE OF A VARIETY OF MEALS THAT NORMALLY HAVE A LOT OF FAT CONTENT.
IT ISN'T JUST ABOUT HEALTH - TO ENJOY A MEAL THAT HAS JUST COST £140 OR TO ENJOY A MEAL FULLSTOP IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE AND SO WHEN A WINE CAN BRING OUT THE BEST IN A MEAL BY BRINGING YOUR TASTEBUDS TO LIFE - THEN IT IS ADVISABLE TO DRINK THAT WINE!
