my friend of 19 yrs gets sometomes involuntary movements in left upper and lower limbs.. the limbs get medially rotated themselves for just an interval. frequency is near abt twice a week. i was really scared when i saw it happening becoz of hi face expressions. it generally lasts for about 2-3 seconds.It also occurs sometimes while standing up. please help and give some probable cause and treatment.

Maybe some form of seizures. Does he seem "out of it" right after these episodes? Has this been for the entire 19 yrs you've known him? Only a doctor and some tests can give you any real answers. Try WebMD.com

Does your friend have epilepsy? The contortions sound like muscle spasms. He could be having seizures or has a muscle related disease.

It's time for a full physical and testing by the doctor.

Your friend needs to see a Doctor right away.
This is a neurological problem and could be a warning of a very serious problem.

That's strange. Sounds like a question for him to ask his doctor.
