Has anyone had the bariatric surgery? How did it change your life? Did you have any health issues after the surgery?

I had a Roux-N-Y in April 2006. I was diabetic and had very high blood pressure. Now I am no longer diabetic and my blood pressure is normal with no drugs to control it. Before the surgery I was taking 11 different drugs and not all of them were compatible with each other. I was admitted to the hospital with BP 220/120 and a blood sugar of 465. It was the best thing I ever did. My recovery time was less than two weeks and my health insurance paid for the surgery except my out-of-pocket expense which was $100. I had the best surgeon for the procedure and she is still my doctor - I now live in Charlotte, NC.
This surgery changed my life. I think it is comical that now people actually listen to me - I am not fat and they actually hear what I say.
I had absolutely no problems after the surgery and I would do it again in a second if I had to.
There are a lot of doctors out there that don't know how to do the procedure so one needs to do their homework before they have the procedure. One thing a person needs to consider is who is telling what story. My surgeon has NEVER lost a patient nor has she ever had one that had any post-surgery problems. I think it is who does the procedure and there are a lot of different ways to do it.

Have a good lady friend who had this done almost a year ago
she was in really bad shape with her health and had been battling some very complicated health issues for years--- she had lost a total of 96 lbs since then and is totally off all of the medications that she was taking---- talked with her yesterday and she said that she had just received her results from follow-up tests done last week and she is in perfect balance within all the numbers that they were shooting for--- to me that makes for a major success story--- she had a (and I'm sure that the spelling of this is wrong but here goes anyway) Ru -- N---Y surgery and she says that after her lengthy investigation--- this surgery is FAR more successful overall than the one they call the Lap Band !!! So, there you have everything I know on the subject---- hope this helps in some way !!!!

I think for some it is a good option...it is very risky with a fairly long recovery time and lots of potential issues and not a lifestyle that would make me happy....have to constantly worry about dehydration, anemia etc......
