Because UV tattoos are a fairly recent innovation, they haven't really 'proved themselves' in the way that more traditional tattoos have. This means, for example, that no-one is exactly sure how the human body will react to the inks used, or how the tattoo will last in the long term. There have also been some concerne raised that the inks used may be carcinogenic (cancer-causing) or may cause allergies. These kinds of problems could take time to show up, and because UV tattoos haven't been around all that long, there's a possibility that they may manifest themselves later... but, on the other hand, they might be fine. We just don't know yet.

If you do decide to go ahead with getting a UV tattoo, I'd suggest going to somewhere that has lots of experience doing them, as obviously it's trickier to tattoo with ink that doesn't show up all that much under natural light.

Hope this helps!

I think that it's a fairly new type of tattoo. I've heard lots of bad things about them, too. I think that that black light ink wasn't originally designed to be used in tattoos. Not all tattoo places offer UV tattoos, in fact most of them don't. Because it's somewhat new and not much is known about it, most places don't want to do them because they'd be putting their reputation on the line for something they don't know much about. I have a friend who got one a few months ago. It's fine, aside from the fact that in normal light it looks like a scar of his tattoo from where it scabbed. I'd wait until more is known about the ink and what happens when it's used in tattoos before getting one.

You can tint the white with another color; like maybe a shade of blue (as in reflection of the water). But honestly, if something is supposed to be white, most tattoo artists will just use the person's skin as the "white". White is usually used for "pop" or highlights but eventually fades.

One would have to ask that if you keep hearing bad things about it, why would you consider it?

It is not FDA approved as they continually claim. Who would support liars by patronizing them?
